Announcing a new project: Project MIMES

 8 December 2024:
The birth of Project MIMES.

About the project

MIMES is an acronym for

M - Mammalian

 I - Intelligence

M - Mind

E - Enhancing /Enhancement

S - System

We won't be talking to birds, bees, bugs or trees, and neither will we
be conversing with invertebrates and rocks.

We will be communicating with bats, mongooses, blue whales
and everything inside that group.

Time Travel: Fact or Fiction?

Why Temporal Tourism remains a Tempting Pipedream

Is accepting Time Travel as real as people who insist that Moon landings were faked, or people who insist on the existence of a Flat Earth - or is it a real science with quantifiable results?

Time Flies

Time travel is a concept that has fascinated humanity for centuries. The idea of being able to travel to the past or the future has been explored in countless works of fiction, from H.G. Wells' The Time Machine to the Back to the Future trilogy. But is time travel really possible?

Albert Einstein's View of Time Travel

Albert Einstein, one of the greatest physicists of all time, believed that time travel was possible in theory. In his theory of relativity, Einstein showed that time is not absolute but is relative to the observer's frame of reference. This means that time can be experienced differently depending on your speed and proximity to a massive object.

For example, if you were to travel at the speed of light, time would slow down for you relative to someone who was stationary. This means that you could potentially travel to the future by traveling at high speeds.

Real-Life Experiments

There have been a number of real-life experiments that have shown that time travel is possible, at least in a limited sense. For example, in the 1970s, scientists at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) conducted an experiment in which they accelerated electrons to nearly the speed of light. They found that the electrons' internal clocks were running slower than the clocks of the stationary electrons.

Fictional Tales and Movies

Of course, time travel is most often explored in the realm of fiction. A plethora of movies, books and TV series all concern them with time travelling in one or another form.

  • H.G. Wells' The Time Machine: This classic novel tells the story of a time traveler who invents a machine that can travel to the future. He uses his machine to travel to the year 802,701, where he finds that humanity has evolved into two separate species: the Eloi, who are gentle and childlike, and the Morlocks, who are monstrous and subterranean.

  • The Back to the Future trilogy: This popular film series follows the adventures of Marty McFly, a teenager who is accidentally sent back in time to 1955. Marty must navigate the complexities of the past while trying to return to his own time.
  • Doctor Who: This long-running British science fiction television series features a time-traveling alien known as the Doctor, who explores the universe in his TARDIS, a time machine disguised as a police box.

The Reality of Time Travel

While time travel is possible in theory, it is not yet possible in practice. The technology required to build a time machine is far beyond our current capabilities. However, as our understanding of the universe continues to grow, it is possible that one day we will be able to develop the technology needed to travel through time.

In the meantime, we can continue to enjoy the many fictional tales and movies that explore the concept of time travel. These stories can help us to think about the possibilities of time travel and its potential impact on our lives.
